Old Gentlemen vs. New Gentlemen

One of the most common perceptions is that the idea of chivalry died years ago with the Knights of the Round Table, but that isn’t always the case. While there are a substantial amount of men in the world that might not take the time of day to make a woman feel like a queen,  there are definitely groups of men who put some effort in. As times have changed, so have our expectations and definitions. The modern gentlemen is adapting to new trends ranging from texting to ordering a cab to take you home. Below are just a few of the most obvious ways that guys have transformed from old to new.

Consistent Texting

It’s understandable that you might not be able to respond to every text message that is sent to you right away, but it is important that it is responded to within a reasonable time frame. If a woman takes the time to approach you and send you a text, you should take the decency to reply with more than an “Okay” or “Sure”. Help to liven the conversation so you can both get to know each other better.

Stop Sending Elicit Photos

Even though as a human being there’s a high probability that you’re interested in having sex, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should be sending elicit photos to the person you’re in a relationship with. At times you might send a photo when it’s inappropriate and it can come off as desperate or trashy. The real gentlemanly thing to do is to avoid naked pictures all together and save that for your personal time together.

End the Sarcasm

Unless you are in a relationship with someone who has specifically stated that they enjoy your sarcasm, it’s one of the things that you might want to forego when you’re texting or on the phone. One of the main issues with snarky and sarcastic comments is that a lot of people aren’t in tune with that type of humor so they may take your comments personally. It’s always best to type your texts in a way that is easily understandable and readable by the recipient, otherwise you could find yourself being branded as a jerk.

Paying for Transportation

If you know that you’re going out on a date where drinking alcohol will be involved, take the time to prepare a reasonable method of transportation for both you and your date. Leave your car at home and make sure that you rent an Uber or Lyft not only for yourself, but for your partner as well. You’ll also want to make sure that it is charged to your card and not theirs. The way that most people see it is the man is supposed to pay for the dates as this is the gentlemanly thing to do. Neglecting to find a reliable source of transportation is not only irresponsible but it also forces your partner to pay for his or her own ride. In the event that you don’t want to spend money on a car, consider choosing a date location that is close enough to each other’s homes where you can romantically walk back home.

Keeping Up with Plans

There’s nothing more frustrating than making plans with someone and not hearing anything from them until you’re supposed to meet up with each other. It’s important to take the time to send intermittent texts to your significant other to let them know that the date is still going to happen on your chosen day. Make sure that you figure out a time that you’ll want to meet at, the location where you’ll be meeting, and send a text to them before you go to pick them up.
